Its the 21st century , and after a taste of a woman prime minister , ” its time ” ( 1972  ALP campaign slogan )to have a woman ie ; Munter ,  run the Country .

Its time to shake off the cold weather blues , enjoy the sun , clean out the wardrobe, and get shopping.

Spring flowers are blooming , and many social events are looming .

Races , Football Finals , and parties .

Time for party frocks , hats , high heels and baring arms and faces .

Get that haircut , hit the gym, or exercise bike , and be ready for the gaiety that is Spring .

Its been a long , cold , wet , Winter .Time to throw off the sloth like shackles that bind , and rejoice,  in the froth and bubble of a glorious Spring season.

Julia's Election Coat of many Colours

The Federal Elections are over  , with neither party  , claiming outright victory.

It appears , one will form a government, with the support of independent candidates .

Sceptical Munters, wait for politicians to deliver on election promises .

We want health reform , greater allocation of childcare places ,  better funding for schools , even distribution of wealth ,   greater employment opportunities, equitable pay and promotional opportunities for youth and women .

Thoughts now turn to spring weather , racing carnivals , AFL and NRL finals , Agricultural Shows and holidays.

Munters , will do what they have always done , vote , work , and just get on with things , despite political manoeuvring .

We may be left to dream about what could have been with one of us in charge .

Not wanting to get on my soapbox , but there are some things that clearly need fixing, and should be addressed by whoever wins government .

Commuters , tired of fighting their way on and off trains/ buses /trams , will tell you more services need to be run , particularly at peak hour and for big events , eg: afl footy.

Public transport ,will be more widely used ,  and offer a viable alternative transport option to the car,  if  more accessible, and user – friendly .

Education funding is necessary for all state schools .Private schools are well resourced and funded . Public schools are not .

Health reform, is needed , making appropriate services , accessible for all .

Childcare, should be provided , another basic necessity, for working families.

I’m  a woman , a voter , a taxpayer , a worker , and mother of four young people . They are all products of public education , use public transport , have been placed in childcare and have been able to access public health services .

All are well educated , healthy , are well adjusted in a family of four siblings despite being placed in child care , use public transport and are valuable members of society with a great sense of social justice.

Some things need fine tuning , in todays society , which both political parties should heed.

There , I,ve said it Munters , got those whinges out there . I feel better already.

Now , time to kick back with a latte , and the newspaper .

Who will Collingwood electorate vote for ?

Sun , spectacular scenery, and that botanical masterpiece , the Gymea Lily , towering majestically from incongruous places with eerie splendour.

Whats not to like about Sydney ?

Its brash , busy and fascinating .

The local, weekend market scene , is thriving .

Inner Sydney is home to a variety of splendid , recycled , markets.

Rozelle , nestled next to Balmain offers designer treats , vintage pieces, and an eclectic mix of collectables , from Sydney’s past , at slightly inflated prices.

Glebe , that funky , hedonistic , port of call , on the city’s doorstep,  is a fascinating mix of new , old , green and indigenous. Just about anything, and everything ,can be found, in the meandaring array of stalls .

The real jewell in the Crown though belongs to the Surry Hills Market .
This slightly down at heel , raucous younger sister to the others , it is on only once a month , and is a treasure trove for intrepid hunters.

It provides vintage , retro , collectable , wearable , eatable and designer all at genuine market prices .Traders will barter, and many a find, is buried in the
casually flung piles of items .

Well worth the trip, across town , to the inner west .

Purchases stowed, sit back , listen to the buskers , have a cold beer , and chill .

Melbourne seems to lack , these cool, vintage , collectable , markets . Can anyone enlighten me to the contrary?

Weekend Market Find

Are they just labels ? Some can be applied to what amounts to a pile of old tat.

Less often, they apply to collectible ,wearable and highly coveted pieces from the past .

These items are becomingly increasingly popular , and are reminiscent of a bygone era . They generally offer , superb tailoring , gorgeous fabrics , unusual design , and unique pieces . Whats not to like ?

Many recycled boutiques have sprung up , with these items gracing their shelves.

Op shops , grandma’s closet and fete’s can reveal undiscovered treasures .

A rich, and varied source of clothing, is hard to find as more competition, for pieces occurs .

Long time bower birds , ie munters , are finding their traditional hunting grounds well picked over, or depleted .

Price plays a big part too, as stocks of preloved items are usually cheaper than designer boutiques . That is, of course, unless a recycled retailer has hit on the source , and gathered , and repriced, the items , in their more up – market boutiques .

Its no coincidence , that locations are becoming closely guarded secrets, traded between friends, or passed down from mother to daughter !

Ditch the kids , pack hubby off to work , conduct a quick 15 minute whip round the laborious household chores , and the day is yours .

Kick back on the couch , something hot and steaming in your hand , locate  the 4 device remote control , and enjoy . Back to back Kerri A Kennel , Years wasted of our Lives,  and the Bold and the Ridiculous , for the next 3 + hours .

Yeah right , by the time Munters , have cleaned the house top to toe , after the holiday onslaught , completed 15 loads of washing , bought enough groceries to feed a small African nation, for a year , and ironed clothes  equal to a days equivalent at  a small industrial laundry, Munters are dead on their feet.

Movie dates , shows , shopping , coffee shop catch ups , are all a pleasant memory , as  reality bites,  and real life takes over .

Whew !, at least its a relief to get back to work , where everything is quiet , orderly , and it is generally a kid free zone .

Family ‘ s , bless em ” , what would we do without them?

End of financial year woes.

Its time to get receipts , expenses , accounts , invoices , etc gathered and issued for the taxman .

Looking on the bright side,  it can be the final day of sales , in the shops.

Retailers , wanting to avoid annual stock-take, will savagely discount today .

So munters , put your tax issues on the back burner , for today at least , and get out there and get shopping !

It can be a bit depressing with the cold , wet and wind but , munters ,think of England .

This is their daily scenario , that , and no showers.

In Melbourne, there is lots to do in the colder months .

Slow food, art shows , theatre and stage , movies , footy , open fires and shopping .

And remember , just when you think it can’t get any colder , wetter , windier , there will be an exceptionally, sunny day , reminding us that Spring, is on the way .

We have already passed the shortest day, and are nearly at the end of June , traditionally the coldest month!.

Hang in there Munters, we will appreciate the warmer weather ,all the more when it arrives.

And remember , when all else fails, there is always shopping.!
