Winter in Melbourne
The skys are grey , the winds blowing all day , its raining , must be winter in Melbourne!.
It can be a bit depressing with the cold , wet and wind but , munters ,think of England .
This is their daily scenario , that , and no showers.
In Melbourne, there is lots to do in the colder months .
Slow food, art shows , theatre and stage , movies , footy , open fires and shopping .
And remember , just when you think it can’t get any colder , wetter , windier , there will be an exceptionally, sunny day , reminding us that Spring, is on the way .
We have already passed the shortest day, and are nearly at the end of June , traditionally the coldest month!.
Hang in there Munters, we will appreciate the warmer weather ,all the more when it arrives.
And remember , when all else fails, there is always shopping.!
Queens Birthday Long Weekend
There has been much discussion about the Queens Birthday Public Holiday, celebrated this Monday .
This is not her actual birthday , which falls in April .
Many question the relevance of supporting an archaic institution , of British Royalty , and celebrating its leaders birthday.
The June long weekend (Queens Birthday weekend) is the opening of the ski season and this runs through to early October with late Spring skiing (if the snow holds).
First snows in Victorian Alps (usually) good for tourist drives but may not be enough for skiing.
AFL Football matches are played , on every day of the long weekend .
Munters , no matter what they do with their 3 day holiday , will be in a relaxed , party mood , knowing they have the Monday holiday to recover .
Change of Season
The end of Summer beckons . It has been another long hot glorious summer with cicadas heralding dusk and parrots squabbling as they feed from the local flowering gum trees.
Mornings are darker and days are perceptibly cooler .Bright light is still common in the middle of the day and the odd hot day still occurs but with decreasing frequency.

February is traditionally the hottest month and the devasting bushfires in victoria of february 09 attest to this .Record breaking temperatures , combined with strong winds set the dry bush around melbourne alight with a sickening ferocity and loss of life.
Easter is early April , pre – season footy has started and the shops are advertising their autumn fashions . Summer sales are over , op -shops have recycled unwanted Christmas presents and young people are back in the daily grind of school , study , sport , and part – time work . Tertiary students commence on 1march after a long summer hiatus and workers and employers alike have long been back in the routine.

Time out for Munters to enjoy some leisure . Grab it while you can . It promises to be a long cold winter.
Spring
Spring is in the air in Melbourne Town and a young man and womans thoughts turn to fancy. That means one of two things for the winter weary locals.
Spring racing carnival with the Melbourne Cup and AFL Grand Final on the last Saturday in September at the G’ .
It promises a smorgasbord of sporting highlights and fun.
